A 1-year-old girl was in the backseat of a car when someone opened fire, fatally shooting a woman sitting in the front seat and injuring the man driving Wednesday afternoon in Auburn Gresham, a police report alleges.
The shooting happened in the 7900 block of South May Street at 1:25 p.m. when the woman, 26, and the man, 27, were shot, causing the vehicle to crash into an SUV, police said.
The woman was shot several times and was taken to Little Company of Mary Medical Center, where she later died, police said. Her name was not released because her next of kin had not yet been notified, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The man was shot in the buttocks and elbow and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition. His 1-year-old daughter was in the backseat of the vehicle when someone opened fire, according to the report. She was not injured, but was taken to the same hospital for observation.
Police said the girl’s mother was called to the hospital.
The driver of the SUV refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
