LOS ANGELES — With the “Scrubs” revival well underway at ABC, the stars of the series, Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, break down those elaborate fantasy sequences that make the show so special.
“That’s one of the fun aspects of ‘Scrubs,’ is that we play everything real in the hospital, but then J.D. has these wonderful elaborate fantasies,” says Braff of his character.
In a recent episode, the now-divorced J.D. and Elliot hash out their differences in a wrestling match.
“That was just an idea that came out of the writers’ room, and it was so funny. We got into these elaborate muscle suits, which were quite an ordeal to get on and off,” Braff explains.
“(It was) full on WWF,” Faison adds. “Hair. Muscles. Funk. Whatever the funk is that smells up the arena. Whatever that is, we had it going on, on set.”
Braff gives special thanks to the stunts team and rigging crew that make it all possible. “It’s just the most amazing crew of people that came together to make all that happen.”
And how does doing these stunts compare to doing them over 15 years ago? Chalke lets us know.
“Back in the day, we were always like, ‘Can I do my own stunts? And how much of my own stunts can I get to do?’ So I think we all came in with that energy, and now it’s like, ‘Oh, my back! I don’t know. Can I do that?'”
“Scrubs” airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC and streams on Hulu.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of ABC, Hulu and this ABC station.
