SANTA ROSA, Calif. — As we move into springtime, temperatures begin to rise and thoughts of cold, creamy ice cream materialize.
“We like to say ice cream solves everything. If we can make your day better just with a little sweetness and a good quality product, that makes everything worth it,” co-owner of Frozen Art Ice Cream Jorge Alcázar says.
Frozen Art Gourmet Ice Cream, a family run shop in Santa Rosa, has always been rooted in tradition.
“My dad says ice cream runs through our blood, Alcázar say with a snicker, “I knew I wanted to do this.”
In 2011, Alcázar became a third-generation ice cream maker and Frozen Art Ice Cream opened its doors.
“We decided. Let’s go for it,” Alcázar explains, “we follow the tradition of the people that came before us but you also want to move it forward.”
Alcázar uses good quality ingredients and old-fashioned methods to elevate the art of ice cream.
“We just make everything in-house. Small batches,” Alcázar says.
From classics like vanilla, chocolate and Oreo to more exotic flavors like corn, maple bacon, and tequila, customers will be amazed by the shop’s wide variety of unforgettable flavors.
“By offering about 40 to 42 flavors,” Alcázar says, “we think we can cover all palates and likes.”
Frozen Art is also well known for their paletas and popsicles which offer customers a vegan, dairy free, lower calorie option.
“We got about 18 of them that are just fruit and water and cane sugar, no dairy added,” says standing over a freezer filled with these frozen treats.
Alcázar truly enjoys making ice cream but it’s his customer’s reactions that are one of his greatest rewards.
“The ones that come back after they finish and say that really was the best ice cream I’ve had. Getting those comments is very gratifying,” Alcázar says, “just grateful to everyone that has supported our business throughout the years.”
