SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — Former NBA star turned DJ Shaquille O’Neal, aka DJ Diesel, took the stage in San Jose Friday night.
O’Neal headlined the city’s San Pedro Superfest.
“The vibe has always been good in San Jose. I love it. I love California, Southern California, Northern California. It’s all love here,” he said.
Over 20,000 people RSVP’d for the free event, but only 5,000 were allowed to attend.

“I’m super excited to just kick it with some friends, have some good energy and just eat some good tacos,” said Jenelle Armas.
Some people, like Jimmy Mendez and his sidekick Rexy, even drove in from the Central Valley.
“I’ll probably be in the middle, front. I’ll have Rexy here with me the whole night. He’s going to be up high,” said Jimmy Mendez.
Organizers say this party is more than just a one-time boost for the city. It’s a part of a series of events that’ll create long term benefits for San Jose.

That series of events has included things like this year’s Super Bowl, as well as the upcoming World Cup.
“San Jose is a market that we think is very developing. There are a lot of people here who are very excited about these types of events,” said one of the event’s promotes, Chad Kenney.
Many who live here tell us they’re happy their city is becoming a destination. And they hope local leaders continue to have public parties just like this one.
“Community, community. I love the rave community. Everyone’s so kind. Everyone’s so sweet. And it just brings everyone together,” said Jasmine Ramos.
Friday’s Superfest was the second one San Jose has hosted this year.
