CONCORD, Calif. (KGO) — A man died after a group fight in the parking lot of Sun Terrace Elementary School in Concord on Wednesday, police said.
It happened during an after school program, according to Mt. Diablo Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Adam Clark, who added that relatives of students got into an altercation then somebody suffered a medical emergency.
“There was an incident and parents got involved,” Dr. Clark said. “The incident turned physical. One of the individuals had a medical emergency. We rendered first aid. AEDs from the site were used.”
AEDs, or Automated External Defibrillators, are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest.
Sixty-two-year-old Sione Filimoehala of Concord, died.
Dr. Clark said he was a relative of a student at the school.
“It’s very scary to have something like that happen in your neighborhood,” said Susan Cassanello of Concord.
Dr. Clark said there are more than 400 students who go to the school. He said they had counselors on site Wednesday and assistance for teachers who needed it.
“We’re all going to come together for the community,” Dr. Clark said. “This is a tragic event. We’re very disheartened by the whole thing. We’re very saddened by it but we’re going to continue to support our students, support the staff.”
ConcordpPolice said they are not looking for any suspects and that there is no threat to the public.
