No shots fired at MIA during precautionary evacuation

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is shedding some light on an incident that happened at Miami International Airport after an unattended bag was found.

According to the MDSO, on Sunday, there was unattended luggage at Departures, Door 21, and as a precaution, the area was evacuated, and the Bomb Squad was called to the airport.

During the response, someone falsely yelled that shots were fired, which caused confusion, panic and led to additional evacuations, MDSO said.

No injuries were reported, and airport operations continue to resume.

The incident came as flights across the country have been canceled or delayed due to a powerful winter storm.

Airport officials on Monday said 86 flights were canceled, and more are expected throughout the day and on Tuesday.
