Fort Lauderdale boxer and gym owner’s body found in canal

The body of a Fort Lauderdale boxer and gym owner was found in a canal after he was reported missing, deputies said.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, a missing persons alert was issued on Saturday for 35-year-old Johnathan Scibica after he was seen leaving Cheers Bar at 941 E Cypress Creek Road.

During their search on Sunday, deputies found Scibica’s vehicle in a waterway near the 900 block of Northwest 63rd.

After pulling his vehicle from the water, Scibica’s body was found inside.

An investigation into Scibica’s death remains active.
