South Florida woke up to a major temperature swing on Tuesday, a day after Miami and Fort Lauderdale broke record high temps, both reaching 88 degrees.
On Tuesday morning we started out around 50 degrees. The cold air is going to settle into the region for the entire week.
There are strong gusty winds expected but the winds will lighten up as the day continues. Gusts Tuesday morning have been 25 to 30 mph and we’ll see them closer to 20 mph over the next few days as the cold air lingers.
Highs Tuesday will be well below normal, and we’ll stay in the upper 60s. We’re shooting for a high temp around 68 degrees and on average for this time of year we should be in the mid 70s.
We stay cool in the shade but mild in the sun each day this week with a dry and cool air mass locked into place.
Tuesday night will be another night with upper 40s and low 50s across the area.
We’ll attempt to warm up heading into Friday but we’ll still keep morning temps in the low to mid 50s and afternoon highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.
Each day just a touch warmer than the day before but overall a stagnant pattern this week.
Just as we think we’re going to warm up, another cold front is on the move, this one even stronger.
A few stray showers are possible Friday and into Saturday as an area of low pressure develops and a front moves through the area. The temperatures are going to plummet through the 40s.
There could still be some changes but as of now, there could be lots of locations that fall into the upper 30s by Sunday morning and that lasts into Monday morning too.
This will be the coldest air we’ve seen in South Florida since December 2010.
