A woman allegedly attacked a Florida Highway Patrol trooper with a knife early Saturday after driving the wrong way on State Road 836, authorities said.
Around 5:30 a.m., troopers responded to multiple calls reporting a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of SR-836, also known as the Dolphin Expressway, near Northwest 107th Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A trooper located the stopped vehicle and approached the driver to investigate. Shortly after making contact, the woman allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the trooper, FHP said.
The trooper fired his service weapon, striking the woman, FHP said.
Both the trooper and the suspect were transported to HCA Kendall Trauma. Authorities said their injuries were not life-threatening.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation, which is standard procedure in incidents involving an officer’s use of force.
Authorities have not identified the trooper or the woman involved.
