Zoo Miami was abruptly closed on Friday after receiving a bomb threat that was believed to be a swatting call, officials said.
Officials at the zoo said they closed out of an abundance of caution after receiving an anonymous call reporting a bomb threat.
“Miami-Dade County Parks staff immediately initiated safety protocols, and the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has been notified. Law enforcement is currently on site conducting a thorough investigation,” the zoo said in a statement.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office officials said it was believed to be a swatting call but they were still sweeping the area.
“The safety of our visitors, staff, and animals is our top priority. The park will remain closed until authorities determine it is safe to reopen,” the zoo’s statement read.
