Miami mother who tried to hire hitman to kill her 3-year-old avoids jail

A Miami mother was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to attempting to hire a hitman to kill her toddler son through a parody website.

Twenty-year-old Jazmin Paez admitted to submitting a request on rentahitman.com—a satirical site—to have her 3‑year‑old killed “before the end of the week.”

According to investigators, Paez provided photos of the child and detailed the exact location where he could be found.

The website’s owner, Robert Innes, told NBC6 Miami that he receives hundreds of similar solicitations daily, most of which are clearly jokes or fake. Paez’s request, however, stood out.

“The ability to research names and addresses and verify the intended target lived at a particular address—that to me is a red flag,” Innes said. “If that information is corroborated, that is something that needs to be looked at, and that’s why I referred it.”

Paez was arrested in July 2023.

No jail time

On Monday, Paez pleaded guilty to soliciting first-degree murder, unlawful use of a communications device, and tampering with evidence.

In exchange, prosecutors offered a withhold of adjudication, meaning she will not be legally classified as a convicted felon.

Paez—who faced up to 40 years in prison—was instead sentenced to:

• Two years of community control
• 12  years of reporting probation
• Mandatory behavioral therapy until no longer deemed necessary

Her parental rights were previously terminated in dependency court. She is barred from contacting the child until her probation ends in 2040.

Attorneys noted that the child has since been adopted by Paez’s mother, while Paez currently lives with her biological father.

In court, Paez stated that she has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
