Video taken in downtown Miami showed the moments when a man, who police said became aggressive, was tased, pepper-sprayed and shot.
According to Miami Police, officers on Saturday were told by a person that there was some type of argument happening at the Eve Hotel on Biscayne Boulevard.
Police said that the argument escalated and the person became aggressive towards officers.
Cellphone video showed the suspect, who was shirtless and standing in front of the hotel valet, when a female officer who was behind him pointed a Taser and deployed it when he turned around.
The man then fell, and several female officers were seen jumping in, as one appeared to pepper-spray him.
During the confrontation, the man was seen standing up and walking towards the officers, and gunshots were heard ringing out after an officer fired their weapon.
It then took several officers to put the man down before he was detained and placed in handcuffs.
Another video showed restraints around his upper leg and ankles
“It appears that the offender has non-life-threatening injuries at this time,” Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said. “One of the officers was injured and is getting treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The shooting happened just across the street from the Ultra Music Festival, but it didn’t happen during festival hours, as hundreds of thousands packed downtown for Miami Music Week.
“It could’ve gone worse,” said a festivalgoer. “I totally feel safe.”
Festivalgoers Evan and Dani told NBC6 that they still feel safe after watching the video, and said the heavy police presence across the area is the reason why.
“I have been to Ultra many times, and every year, I have always felt incredibly safe,” Dani said. “Just out walking around alone right now, I feel safe. There are so many law enforcement officers everywhere, and I know they would be ready to jump in if anything were to happen.”
The man who was shot remains in stable condition and is still in the hospital.
His identity and the charges he faces were not released.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will take over the investigation, which is standard whenever there is a police-involved shooting.
