The Miami Beach Police Department said its Operation Trigger Lock led to more than 100 drug and firearm-related arrests during the spring break period this year.
The operation was a “coordinated, multi-unit enforcement initiative designed to prevent gun violence and reduce violent crime,” officials said.
The arrests included 94 firearm investigations, 39 felony arrests and 28 firearm-related arrests. Police also seized 636 grams of cannabis, 41 grams of MDMA and 16 ounces of promethazine hydrochloride.
Authorities recovered at least one stolen vehicle.

Operation Trigger Lock also resulted in:
- 37 firearms impounded
- 5 convicted felons arrested in possession of firearms
- 5 stolen firearms recovered
- 1 firearm with an obliterated serial number recovered
- 7 warrant arrests
- 6 wanted / locate-and-notify subjects identified
- $6,000 U.S. currency impounded
“While this year’s spring break was smooth and largely uneventful, our operational tempo did not decrease,” Chief Wayne A. Jones said. “Operation Trigger Lock exemplifies our commitment to preventing violence before it occurs—not simply responding after the fact.”
