New surveillance video captured the moment when a car crashed into a longtime Oakland Park business overnight, destroying its entrance and left the owner worried about what comes next.
The business, Oriental Rug Car, still had damage on Sunday after the car slammed into it.
NBC6 spoke with the owner, Hasan Ashwas
“We turn on the camera and see the mess outside,” he said. “I guess somebody crashed into here.”
In multiple angles in the surveillance video, the car was seen slamming into the business, that’s been in Oakland for 40 years.
The SUV destroyed the entrance and sent debris flying.
“The frustrating thing is the guy’s insurance,” Ashwas said. “We can’t even find out where it is. There’s no name, no phone number.
Inside the business, the impact reached the break-room and knocked over a refrigerator and scattered items across the floor.
“Now we gotta deal with the building, we don’t know if it’s gonna be operating business anymore because two of our entrances are gone,” he said.
Oakland Park Fire Rescue and the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to the business, and it appeared that everyone was OK.
Video also showed the driver walking out of the car.
“One little mistake puts six people that work here in jeopardy,” Ashwas said. “Thank God it happened at night and not during the business day.”
The focus has now shifted to cleanup and whether the 40-year-old business can keep its doors open.
NBC6 has reached out to law enforcement for more details.
