The FBI is offering a reward for information leading to the remains of Ana Maria Henao Knezevich, a woman living in Spain who disappeared in 2024 and was believed to have been murdered by her husband, a South Florida businessman later found dead in jail.
Henao Knezevich, a Colombian native and naturalized American who had lived in Fort Lauderdale, was reported missing on Feb. 4, 2024, while living in Madrid, where she was believed to have been murdered two days earlier, the FBI said.
The 40-year-old had been living in Spain amid a contentious divorce from her estranged husband, David Knezevich, whom authorities believe kidnapped and killed her.
Now, investigators are offering up to $25,000 for information leading to her remains, believed to have been disposed of somewhere between Madrid, Spain, and Serbia along a route that traveled through Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and Belgrade, Serbia.
The FBI also said that a distinctive necklace and journal belonging to the victim were not found in her apartment, and “they may be recognizable to someone who saw them.”

The killing of Ana Maria Henao Knezevich
Henao Knezevich was last seen on surveillance footage walking into her apartment building in Madrid at around 1:42 p.m., on February 2, 2024, the FBI said. Later that same day, she had a video conference call at around 7 p.m. and sent her last text message to friends at approximately 10:01 p.m.
Officials said that at around 9:27 p.m., a man believed to be her husband was seen on surveillance footage gaining entry into her apartment building wearing a motorcycle helmet and a reflective vest.
The man spray-painted the only surveillance camera in the apartment building lobby, and then left the building with an object, believed by law enforcement to be a rolling suitcase carrying Ana Maria Henao Knezevich’s body.
Henao Knezevich was never seen again, and the FBI said “all evidence known to date indicates that she is deceased.”
The FBI said on Jan. 29, 2024, David Knezevich rented a dark blue 2019 Peugeot 308 in Belgrade, Serbia. He tinted the rear windows and drove it from Belgrade, Serbia to Madrid, Spain traveling through Croatia, Slovenia, France, Italy, and Spain.
“During the trip, he stole multiple license plates in an attempt to conceal his movements. He travelled back to Serbia via the same route, and it is believed he disposed of Ana Maria’s remains during this return trip,” officials said.
David Knezevich had been charged with kidnapping resulting in death, foreign domestic violence resulting in death and foreign murder of a United States national in his wife’s disappearance.
In April 2025, officials with the U. S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons said he was found unresponsive at the Federal Detention Center in Miami. A defense attorney said he died by suicide.
In a statement released at that time last year, Henao Knezevich’s family said:
“The suicide of Ana’s murderer closes a painful chapter in our lives, previously filled with the dread that he might not face justice. Now, we may never know where he put Ana’s body,” the statement read. “It is a cruel final insult that we may never recover Ana’s remains or know the full extent of the betrayal she suffered. Still, we remain committed to seeking the truth and justice for Ana through our attorney, Mr. Ingber, and to preserving Ana’s memory while honoring her life with dignity, strength, and love. We are thankful to the authorities that they continue to investigate and to search for Anna‘s body.”
