A man said he was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head in an assault early Thursday morning after leaving a bar in West Hollywood.
Video from a driver who passed by the scene near the Abbey bar captured part of the attack on the Fairfax District resident, who said the altercation started with an unsettling encounter with a woman in West Hollywood Park.
“She looks over to me and we make eye contact and she’s like, ‘I’ll beat his ass. too,'” said Saint, who asked not to be identified by his last name. “I was like, girl, I don’t even know you.”
That’s when the woman charged toward him and started swinging, Saint said. Moments later, people who were with the woman joined in the attack, knocking him to the ground and kicking him in the head and body.
Saint said he tried to call 911 for help, but the attackers took his phone.
“I was just being surrounded and kicked in the face over and over again and stepped on,” he said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded to a report of a fight. No arrests were reported early Friday.
A West Hollywood city spokesperson said members of the Security Ambassadors program were at the location. The unarmed members of the program, established in 2013, provides security services at the street level.
“We are deeply concerned by the reported attack,” the spokesperson said. “West Hollywood Security Ambassadors were onsite and immediately contacted the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, which responded to the incident.”
Saint suffered bruises, cuts and other injuries. He said he does not believe he was targeted by the attackers.
