2-week-old baby unresponsive after car crash near Hemet

A 2-week-old baby was unresponsive Friday after a two-vehicle crash in Valle Vista, an unincorporated area near Hemet.

The crash was reported around 5:15 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of New Chicago Avenue and state Route 74, where responding officers found the crash in the middle of the intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A woman in one of the two involved vehicles had an unrestrained newborn in her arms, who was not waking up, according to the CHP.

It was unclear if anyone else was hurt, and unknown if the baby was being taken to a hospital.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
