Eileen Gu is golden once again.
The 22-year-old freestyle skiing superstar earned gold in the halfpipe event at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics on Sunday. China’s Li Fanghui won silver and Great Britain’s Zoe Atkin won bronze.
Gu is now the most decorated freestyle skier — man or woman — in Olympic history with six medals.
Gu kicked off her Olympic career at just 18 years old with two golds and a silver during the 2022 Beijing Games. In Milan Cortina, she was the only skier to compete in halfpipe, slopestyle and big air, and she medaled in all three once again. After earning silver in slopestyle and big air, she closed things out with her second halfpipe gold.
After bailing out on her first run, Gu skyrocketed into the lead with a 94.00 in her second run. She elevated her score to a 94.75 in her final run, keeping her distance from Li (93.00), Atkin (92.50) and the rest of the pack.
“She is unreal. It’s pretty crazy how good she is,” New Zealand’s Mischa Thomas, who finished eighth, said of Gu. “She is ‘Wonder Woman.’”
Born in San Francisco to an American father and Chinese mother, Gu represents China at the Olympics. Atkin follows a similar path: born and raised in the U.S. (Newton, Massachusetts), representing another country and attending Stanford University.
Team USA had two skiers in the event. California native Kate Gray placed 10th with a 66.50 on her last run, while Colorado native Svea Irving finished 11th with a 22.50 on her final run. Irving did not make a second run after suffering a bruised hip during a fall on her first attempt, and she bailed out midway through her third run.
The final was originally scheduled for Saturday, but it was postponed to the final day of the Milan Cortina Games due to a snowstorm.
U.S. freestyle skier Nick Goepper is known to put on a pair of jeans to ski his halfpipe runs.
