While the Chicago area digs out from its first major winter storm of the season, more snow could be on the way in coming days.
In fact, snow isn’t even completely out of the area just yet, as some areas could see another inch or so of accumulation by the end of the day, according to forecast models.
What’s more, a winter weather advisory remains in effect until noon for most of the area, as wind gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour could cause drifting and blowing snow, snarling traffic and leading to travel headaches at airports.
Parts of northern Indiana, including LaPorte County, are also under a winter storm warning, as lake-effect snow is expected to impact the region for most of Sunday. Another two-to-four inches of snow are possible there, and more accumulations could occur depending on where the lake-effect snow bands set up, according to forecast models.
Winds will slowly start to die down as the day moves along Sunday, with high temperatures in the upper-20s and low-30s across the area.
Things will remain on the chilly side Monday with highs in the mid-to-upper 20s, but residents should buckle up because another round of snow could potentially impact the region. That snow is expected to arrive just in time for the evening rush hour, with another two-to-four inches of accumulation possible across the area before the system finally clears out.
A brief snow interlude will occur Tuesday, though temperatures will be downright frigid, with highs in the low-20s and wind chills potentially dipping below zero overnight, according to forecast models.
Wednesday could see another chance of snow in the area, and once that departs yet another cold snap will occur, with highs around 20 degrees Thursday and lows plunging into the single-digits overnight into Friday.
After yet another chance of snow on Friday, things will warm up slightly next weekend, with highs in the low-30s on Saturday, but the warmth will be short-lived, as below-average temperatures are expected to continue well into next week.
