A stretch of southbound Interstate 5 in Burbank will be closed this weekend for pavement work, beginning Friday night.
The southbound freeway will be reduced to two lanes between Cohasset Street and Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. All southbound lanes will be closed between Hollywood Way and Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard during early morning hours Saturday and Monday.
All lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
The following roadways will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday:
- Up to four lanes of of southbound I-5 between Cohasset Street and Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard;
- southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Buena Vista Street; and
- southbound I-5 off-ramp at Empire Avenue.
The following roadways will be closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday and Monday:
- southbound I-5 between Hollywood Way and Empire Avenue/San Fernando Boulevard;
- southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps at Buena Vista Street;
- southbound I-5 off-ramp at Empire Avenue; and
- southbound I-5 on-ramp at Hollywood Way.
Traffic will be detoured during the hours of full freeway closure. Residents and businesses located near construction may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with construction activities.
This is the fifth of six 55-hour extended weekend closures scheduled through spring 2026. Construction is expected to be complete in summer 2027.
The work is part of a $23.2 million project to replace damaged pavement on I-5 between Empire Avenue and Cohasset Street, to improve ride quality and safety. The contractor is Security Paving Company Inc.
