An Extreme Heat Warning will impact Southern California this week as potentially record-breaking temperatures settle over Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernadino counties.
The Extreme Heat Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Friday. In Los Angeles County, residents can visit hundreds of Cooling Centers this week to get relief from the heat.

Los Angeles County Cooling Centers
To find an LA County Cooling Center near you, visit the county’s interactive map and click on a green snowflake icon or check out this list of Cooling Center sites.
Most Cooling Centers are located inside local library branches or senior centers. Times vary by location, so check each listing separately for that information via the county’s map. Angelenos can also call 311 to learn more.

The City of Los Angeles said Monday these Cooling Centers will operate under extended hours — 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday through Friday — for Angelenos and their pets seeking respite from the scorching temps:
- Canoga Park Senior Citizen’s Center in San Fernando Valley | 7326 Jordan Ave.
- North Hollywood Senior Citizen Center | 5301 Tujunga Ave.
- Pecan Recreation Center in Downtown LA | 145 S. Pecan St.
- Algin Sutton Recreation Center in South LA | 8800 S. Hoover St.
Orange County Cooling Centers

SoCal extreme heat safety
Some of LA County’s heat safety tips include staying out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., drinking plenty of water (two to four glasses every hour), wearing light-colored and lightweight clothing, and never leaving your pets and children unattended in hot cars.
