A woman was rescued Saturday after her vehicle went off an embankment in Simi Valley, authorities said.
The incident was reported around 4:10 p.m. on the westbound 118 freeway near Rocky Peak Road, just west of the Los Angeles and Ventura county line.
Ventura County Search and Rescue personnel were returning from a training exercise when they spotted the vehicle veer to the right and leave the roadway, Sgt. Chris Dyer of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.
The car kicked up dust as it went off the side of the road. Witnesses said they saw the female driver exit the vehicle safely.
Search and Rescue members stopped to aid the driver along with Ventura and L.A. County firefighters.
Fire officials said they established a rope system to reach the patient, who was approximately 40 feet off the road. The team was able to extract her without the use of tools.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was reported to only have minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
