Tens of thousands of protesters in Southern California are expected to join others in cities across the U.S. on Saturday for marches and rallies against what they call the autocratic immigration policies of President Donald Trump.
The so-called No Kings protest in downtown Los Angeles gets underway at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 28th at Gloria Molina Grand Park, across the street from Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N. Spring Street.
“As unconstitutional deportations and inhumane treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers continue across the United States, and as illegal and unauthorized wars are perpetrated around the globe, Los Angeles unites in solidarity with a peaceful march and rally …,” organizers said in a news release.
Scheduled speakers include Jodie Sweetin, Dr. Melina Abdullah, Phyllis Bennis, Frank Meeink and Becky Pringle, with musical performances by the 2025 Grammy Harry Belafonte award winner, Iman Jordan, and the San Diego-based hip-hop group The Neighborhood Kids.
A 20-foot-tall helium-filled balloon of Trump wearing a diaper and another 15-foot-tall balloon of Trump wearing a Russian military uniform will be visual features at the rally, which is being organized locally by 50501 SoCal.
The demonstrators plan to March down Spring Street and organizers said they expect 50,000 people to attend.
“A lot of people want to help, they just don’t know where to start,” said Emily Williams, a lead organizer for 50501 SoCal.
“No Kings is that starting point. It’s about community, about showing up for each other, and about turning concern into real action you can be part of.”
According to organizers the march will be “a direct confrontation with escalating state violence, from deportations carried out with little to no due process to military aggression abroad.”
The organizers are calling for the impeachment and removal of the Trump administration and the abolition of ICE.
The No Kings National Day of Nonviolent Action will see over 3,000 communities hold simultaneous demonstrations. The rally is being supported locally by more than 30 organizations.
