Video footage captured a road rage incident in Newport Beach last weekend that injured a cyclist.
Officers with the Newport Beach Police Department responded to the call of a traffic collision that had involved a vehicle and a cyclist at about 10:30 a.m. on March 21.
When police arrived at the scene, they found that the bicyclist needed medical attention for his injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Professional cyclist, Luke Fetzer, explained the situation in a social media post.
Fetzer said he was enjoying a ride back home when a BMW and a black and red Corvette both threw items out of the car at him and a fellow cyclist.
“They then parked up the road, got out of their cars and attempted to hit us (and other cyclist) off our bikes by running into traffic and blocking the road,” Fetzer said in his post.
The cyclist also shared the California Vehicle Code 23110 in his post, which states that “it is illegal to throw any substance or object at a vehicle or its occupants on a roadway. Penalties range from 6 months to 3 years in prison.”
The Newport Beach Police Department reminded drivers and cyclists to stay alert, follow traffic laws, and share the road.
