Santa Monica police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead Saturday, authorities said.
Officers responded to the shooting near the intersection of 4th and Olympic Drive around 10:30 p.m., said the Santa Monica Police Department. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.
“During the confrontation, a suspect discharged at least one firearm, striking the victim,” police said.
The victim’s identity has not been released. The suspect or suspects had left the scene by the time officers arrived. No description was provided.
The incident remains under investigation.
