Two people were injured in separate shootings that occurred within a half hour of each other in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood, police said.
The first incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on the 2100 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said. A 43-year-old man was outside when he heard gunshots and felt pain.
He was shot twice in the right leg and took himself to a local hospital for treatment where he was initially listed in fair condition, police said.
Roughly 30 minutes later, another shooting occurred around 2 a.m. on the 700 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said. A 37-year-old man was shot in the leg in an incident police believe occurred inside an apartment.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was initially listed in fair condition, according to police.
No one is in custody for either incident, police said.
Area 3 detectives are continuing to investigate.
