Chicago police were searching for the driver who fled after crashing into a pole in the city’s East Side neighborhood, killing the passenger, authorities stated.
At approximately 5:01 a.m. on Thursday, the driver of a GMC veered off the road near East 95th Street and South Chicago Avenue and struck a pole. The passenger, a 38-year-old woman, sustained injuries to the body and head. She was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
The driver ran away following the crash. No additional injuries were reported.
As of Thursday evening, the Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Investigations Unit was investigating the circumstances of the crash.
