Not today, shoplifters.
The Chino Police Department released a video on social media Thursday of a thwarted theft in which four suspects were caught red-handed trying to flee from a store with a shopping cart filled with stolen clothing.
The shoplifting incident happened on Wednesday at around 2:30 p.m. at a local Kohl’s store.
Security cameras from inside the store captured the suspects, three men and one woman, browsing the aisles, grabbing pairs of Levi’s jeans and other apparel, and piling the items high into a cart.
With the cart brimming, the group walked out of the store.
As they approached the parking lot, their getaway van was waiting and backing out of a parking spot, security video showed. The suspects started to run to the van, but within seconds, two Chino Police Department patrol cars surrounded them.
The suspects jumped into the van and drove off with the van doors still open, passing another police car.
The CPD said officers responded to the theft in progress and were able to connect the case to a prior theft involving the same suspect vehicle.
The suspects drove onto the freeway but with help from the CPD’s Real Time Crime Center, officers were able to quickly locate the van.
Officers canvassed the area and arrested all four suspects, one of whom had a felony no-bail warrant.
The police video — set to the Jane’s Addiction song “Been Caught Stealing” — showed the suspects in handcuffs, being loaded into police cars.
Police said the stolen merch was recovered and returned to the store, and no one was hurt in the heist.
“Don’t commit crime in Chino,” the department’s social media post read.
