With the start of tax season just a few weeks away, the deadline for employers to send out W-2 forms is quickly approaching.
Employers must provide employees with their W-2 forms by January 31, according to the Social Security Administration.
Formally called “Form W-2” by the Internal Revenue Service, the form reports an employee’s annual wages and the amount of federal, state, and local taxes withheld from their paychecks.
The IRS has not yet formally announced this year’s start date, however, those eager to file can prepare early by gathering documents and reviewing guidance provided by the IRS.
Filing typically opens at the end of January, though the tax payment deadline is not until April 15.
