A brush fire is burning Friday in the northern Los Angeles County community of Acton.
The wind-driven Crown Fire was estimated at about 30 acres. It was reported at about 11:30 a.m., when thick smoke began rising from a canyon area.
At least on water-dropping aircraft responded to the location. A line of red fire retardant was dropping between flames and a group of buildings.
No structures were immediately threatened.
Details about how the fire started were not immediately available.
Through March, about 500 wildland fires were reported in California that burned a total of 2,000 acres. At this time last year, 600 fires had burned 59,170 acres, according to Cal Fire.
The state’s five-year average is 734 fires and 13,700 acres through March.
