Congratulations are in order for Big Bear’s famed eagles as they welcome the successful hatching of a second chick.
Jackie and Shadow, the pair of eagles that have captured the heart of Internet dwellers, welcomed a second chick Saturday morning, according to Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV). The nonprofit organization runs the livestream that captures tender moments of the eagle pair at their nest.
According to FOBBV, the second chick hatched at 8:30 a.m., about 12 hours after its sibling successfully hatched. Fans who have been following Jackie and Shadow’s story have eagerly been awaiting the arrival of the second chick after it began to pip over the weekend.
The expansion of the eagle family comes after the feathery couple began the year with some heartache. In January, the eagles lost two eggs after their nest was breached by ravens. The second clutch of eggs was laid in February, which led to the eaglets that hatched over the Easter weekend.
FOBBV said the experienced parents are doting on their new little ones, feeding them bits of fish and other prey. Because the chicks’ neck muscles aren’t very strong at this stage, feeding them poses a challenge, but they’re also affectionately known as “bobbleheads.”
“Both chicks are doing well, looking great and their journey has just begun,” the nonprofit said in a post online.
