The Chicago Bears’ single-season passing record stood for 30 years, and Erik Kramer had a message for Caleb Williams after the quarterback broke the mark.
Williams achieved the feat during Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions, but Kramer paid homage to the young star in a social media post on Tuesday,.
“Congrats to Caleb Williams for breaking the single-season passing record,” Kramer said. “Next year you will pass for more than 4000!”
He also shared a special message to Williams ahead of this weekend’s playoff game.
“Now go beat the Packers! Go Bears!,” he said.
Kramer had held the Bears’ single-season passing record for more than 30 years, throwing for 3,838 yards during the 1995 season for Chicago.
Williams broke that record with a touchdown pass to Jahdae Walker during the Bears’ 19-16 loss to the Lions on Sunday.
Unfortunately Williams finished just short of the mythical 4,000-yard mark for the Bears, finishing the regular season with 3,942 passing yards, good for seventh in the NFL. He also finished sixth in the league with 27 touchdowns on the season.
No Bears quarterback has ever thrown for 4,000 yards in a season, making them the only team not to achieve that milestone.
On Saturday, Williams and the Bears will look to achieve something they haven’t since 1941: beat the Packers in the playoffs.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
