The driver of a Colorado Department of Transportation snowplow is facing multiple charges after a crash involving multiple vehicles and a van carrying a Santa Clarita girls hockey team that left one player’s father dead and several others injured, authorities said.
The accident occurred Jan. 29, 2026, at about 8:53 a.m. on Interstate 70 near mile marker 218 in Clear Creek County, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Officials said the Sprinter van was carrying 10 people when it collided with the snowplow. The driver of the van, a parent of one of the players, was killed in the crash. Eight passengers were injured.
Among the passengers were three girls from the Santa Clarita Lady Flyers, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Authorities identified the snowplow driver as 29-year-old Colton A. Wiedman.
Wiedman faces one count of reckless driving resulting in death, a Class 1 traffic misdemeanor, and four counts of reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury. Each additional count is also a Class 1 traffic misdemeanor.
