A DUI suspect was arrested after two people who had just exited a car stopped on a North Hollywood street early Sunday morning were struck and killed.
The crash at about 2:30 a.m. was on Colfax Avenue north of Calvert Street, where an Acura traveling northbound hit two people after they got out of the rear driver’s side of a Toyota Camry. The Acura was traveling at unsafe speeds, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
One of the Camry passengers died at the scene. He was identified only as a man in his 30s. A second passenger, a woman in her 50s, died at a hospital.
Three other people inside the Camry suffered minor injuries.
The Acura driver, the only person in the car, continued northeast and pulled into a private driveway before colliding with several unoccupied parked vehicles, police said.
He was identified by police as 32-year-old Vidal Cruz Jr., of Pacoima. He was treated for injuries at a hospital and later arrested and booked on suspicion of two counts of murder.
Bail was set at $4 million. Jail records did not indicate an initial court date
