The Los Angeles Unified School District is one step closer to potentially avoiding a strike after it reached a tentative agreement with another labor group, it was announced Sunday night.
LAUSD and the Associated Administrators Los Angeles (AALA)/Teamsters 2010, which represents six administrative departments in the school district, have tentatively agreed to increase represented workers’ salaries by 11.65% over two years. Among those covered by the labor union are middle managers in the district.
Earlier Sunday, the school district and United Teachers LA (UTLA) reached a tentative agreement after negotiating on an 11.65% increase to members’ salaries and a pay start of $77,000 for teachers per year.
LAUSD has yet to reach an agreement with SEIU Local 99, which includes 30,000 bus drivers, custodians and cafeteria workers.
The union groups threatened to strike on Tuesday if negotiations failed to reach an agreement. If a strike were to occur, it would disrupt the district’s 1,302 campuses.
On Thursday, district officials launched a dedicated website where students, parents and others could keep tabs on the negotiations and find available resources, including food distribution sites, learning and mental health resources, alternative child care options, as well as tech support for devices and connectivity.
