A teen charged with fatally stabbing a pregnant woman in suburban Downers Grove has been released from a hospital after suffering self-inflicted wounds last week.
According to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, 19-year-old Nedas Revuckas was released days after he was hospitalized in critical condition for wounds he allegedly inflicted upon himself while in custody.
Officials say Revuckas is back in custody at the DuPage County Correctional Facility, and he has been ordered detained pretrial after a court hearing.
At approximately 5 p.m. Thursday, Revuckas sustained injuries in his housing unit at the jail authorities said. He was immediately treated by Correctional Center medical staff and transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
Authorities said he is in critical condition and preliminary investigation suggests his injuries were self-inflicted. No other individuals are believed to be involved.
Revukas was charged with first degree murder, intentional homicide of an unborn child, armed robbery, aggravated arson and animal cruelty in connection with the killing of 30-year-old Eliza Morales.
Prosecutors say he also lit her apartment on fire and stabbed her dog, all because he was “upset about the condition” of a Ford Ranger truck he recently purchased from her husband, according to court documents.
