Figure skating’s Olympic Exhibition Gala is a time for self expression, creativity and fun and gold medalist Mikhail Shaidorov took that to another level as he brought out his crowd favorite kung fu panda routine that even ended with a cameo from Jackie Chan.
Skating in an actual panda costume, the 21-year-old, who famously won gold in the Winter Olympics after shocking skates from some of the biggest medal contenders, including Ilia Malinin, brought one of the most memorable performances of the night.
He battled skaters in Mortal Combat and Deadpool costumes before also skating to a rendition of Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time” as the crowd clapped, cheered and roared alongside him.
At one point, Shaidorov, who is a film buff and loves “Kung Fu Panda,” landed a triple jump while still skating in the costume.
“I have so many questions – and one of them is how could you complete a triple in that costume?” Olympic gold medalist and commentator Tara Lipinski said, adding “a spiraling panda – we’ve seen it all.”
“This was just super silly but lots and lots and lots of fun,” fellow Olympian and commentator Johnny Weir followed.
In yet another surprise for the wild performance, famed actor Jackie Chan appeared just off the ice and handed Shaidorov stuffed pandas as he skated off.

The performance came near the end of the gala, which allows skaters to express themselves on Olympic ice without medals and scores.
Rather than competition routines, the skaters were able to show a little more of their personality with music and programs that ranged from classical music to “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns ‘n Roses to the score from the film “Mortal Kombat.”
