A father is mourning after his 28-year-old son was killed during what should have been a routine food delivery in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.
The victim was identified as Daniel L. Figueroa, of Westmont, by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Chicago police said his body was discovered on the street after 2 a.m. in the 5500 block of West Flournoy Street near South Lotus Avenue.
Figueroa was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, possibly from a head injury.
In an odd twist, his delivery vehicle — a 2005 minivan — was missing, leading police to believe he may have been carjacked.
“He had a family that loved him, he was a good kid,” Daniel Figueroa’s father, Carlos Figueroa, said. “He was too young to die. A parent isn’t supposed to bury their children.”
As of Monday evening, no arrests had been made in the case.
