The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, Chicago’s annual St. Patrick’s Day run and walk, will bring thousands to the downtown area next weekend.
Participants will lace up on March 22 to step off from Grant Park for the Shamrock Shuffle 8K run and 2-mile walk.
Though both events start in Grant Park, the walk moves down the Lakefront Trail and the run heads past the Chicago River.
Runners and walkers start at different times throughout the morning depending on their corral, that is typically assigned by average speed. The first wave of runners steps off at 8:30 a.m. and the first walkers at 9:30 a.m., according to the Shamrock Shuffle website.
Some of the 8K runners will be making their first strides toward completing the Bank of America Chicago Distrance Series, earning a special medal awarded to those who run the Shamrock Shuffle 8K run, the Chicago 13.1 and the Chicago marathon in one year.
Though it’s not a perfect image, the shuffle course roughly follows the outline of a shamrock.
Whether you’re training for the race or scouting a spot to cheer from, here’s a map of the course:
