Charles Swab released a statement after people in Chicago and across the country reported issues with the firm’s digital platforms, including that their accounts showed a zero balance.
Around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, an NBC Chicago viewer said all of her accounts had been showing they were at a balance of zero for hours.
“It is most distressing,” the viewer said in an email.
They were far from the only person experiencing problems with Charles Swab.
Reports of issues began surfacing around 11 a.m. and by roughly 3 p.m., more than 1,300 Charles Schwab users around the country had reported issues, according to Downdetector. A heatmap of reports shows users had issues in Chicago and several other major cities, including New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and Pheonix.
By 3:50 p.m., a spokesperson for Charles Schwab told NBC Chicago the issue was resolved.
“A technical issue intermittently impacted some trading-related features for clients. Our technology teams have resolved the issue and clients should soon have this issue resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Only a small subset of our clients were impacted,” the Charles Schwab spokesperson said.
