A flight bound for Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport was diverted to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, where authorities confirmed FBI agents were present on Sunday afternoon.
According to the flight-tracking website FlightAware.com, American Airlines flight 2819 left John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City at 8:59 a.m. ET and was diverted to Detroit, where it landed at 11:08 a.m. ET. The flight was originally scheduled to arrive at O’Hare at 10:57 a.m. CT.
The FBI’s Detroit Field Office confirmed agents were present at the airport, “conducting law enforcement activities,” but didn’t provide additional details.
An American Airlines spokesperson said a disruptive customer prompted the aircraft to divert to Detroit, where law enforcement and medical personnel met the flight. The person in question was taken off the plane, the airline said.
According to FlightAware, the aircraft is scheduled to leave Detroit at 5:49 p.m. CT.
