Multiple Joliet schools are in a precautionary lockdown after a police pursuit and crash Monday afternoon.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, a suspect was being pursued in the 200 block of Romayne Avenue when they crashed their vehicle.
That suspect then fled the scene on foot and has barricaded themselves inside of a residence.
As a result of the barricade situation, schools near the scene were sent into a precautionary lockdown, officials said. Those schools included Marycrest School, Mary Sears Children’s Academy and Joliet Township High School, officials said.
Residents are being asked to avoid the area near Joyce Road between Jefferson Street and McDonough Street during the investigation and ongoing police activity.
No further information was available, and we will update this story with details as they come in.
