While three Chicago chefs were named finalists in the James Beard Awards on Tuesday, the day also brought major news for the city, as organizers announced the prestigious awards ceremony will remain in Chicago through 2028.
“…This extension is a recognition of Chicago’s extraordinary culinary community and the chefs, restaurateurs, and hospitality professionals who make our city one of the great food destinations in the world,” Kristen Reynolds, president and CEO of Choose Chicago, said in a news release, in part. Chicago is Never Done. Never Outdone., and our culinary scene reflects that spirit every day—constantly evolving, innovating, and setting the standard for excellence.”
Widely regarded as the highest honors in American food culture, the James Beard Awards recognize excellence across the culinary and food media industries. The James Beard Foundation also announced its 2026 Restaurant and Chef Award nominees, as well as this year’s Achievement Award honorees.

- Bailey Sullivan, Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio
Best Chef: Great Lakes (IL, IN, MI, OH)
- Norman Fenton, Cariño
- Jacob Potashnick, Feld
The James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony, where this year’s winners will be announced, is scheduled for June 15 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
