The Chicago area saw plenty of rain and severe thunderstorms on Thursday night, but could another threat exist for the end of the work week?
Before that threat arrives, Thursday’s weather had one final gasp, with a severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of the area.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for northwestern Will, eastern Grundy, southeastern DuPage and south-central Cook counties, according to the National Weather Service, until 11 p.m.
The storms are producing wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour, and are moving northeast at 45 miles per hour, according to the alert.
Another warning has been issued for northeastern Cook County until 11:15 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, a line of storms stretching from Rogers Park to Orland Park is moving northeast at 50 miles per hour, producing wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, there is indeed a severe threat in parts of the area Friday, with most of the region at a “marginal” risk of storms, the first of five levels used by the SPC.
All manner of severe weather threats would be present in that area, including a non-zero risk of tornadoes, along with gusty winds and hail.
Before that threat emerges, showers will slowly come to an end during the overnight hours, with some embedded thunderstorms moving through the area early Friday morning.
Friday should be a mostly dry day, with temps in the 60s and pleasant conditions expected away from Lake Michigan.
Late Friday however the chance of showers and thunderstorms will arrive, with two different weather fronts converging on the region. A warm front from the south will bring showers and thunderstorms to the region south of Interstate 80, then another front will sweep from northwest to southeast, dropping temperatures behind it.
Showers could persist into Saturday morning thanks to that front, with temps slowly dropping into the 50s to start the weekend.
After a chilly overnight period into Easter Sunday, temperatures are expected to warm into the low-50s, according to forecast models.
Next week will see multiple chances for showers, with springlike temperatures also expected in the area.
