A cool and breezy Saturday is on tap, with highs near 60 degrees, as dry conditions persist, clouds linger, and a few breaks of sun are possible.
The day began on a dreary note as rain continued in the morning alongside breezy conditions. Around 6:30 a.m., heavy showers moved through parts of northern Cook County, with rain and wind expected to slowly subside.
The National Weather Service said flooding remained a concern, with showers falling on already saturated soils.
Improvements were expected later in the day, with dry air expected to move in behind the system and a cold front helping push out the rain. Some lingering showers were possible behind that activity, but those will eventually give way to drier conditions, which will take hold around lunchtime.
Northwest Indiana might not be entirely in the clear, with rain continuing a little while longer.
A cold front with showers and storms is passing this morning. The rain is falling on soils that are already saturated from recent rains. Localized flooding will remain possible through the morning. While rain sticks around through much of the morning, a glimpse of sunshine is possible later, though cloud cover will remain in place in some capacity through the rest of Saturday. Conditions will eventually dry off, with communities inland experiencing high temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s.
Other areas, however, will see readings in the upper 50s, which will continue through Sunday.
There’s good news for the latter part of the weekend, with plenty of sunshine on tap.
Cloud clover will move out, making way for sunny skies, but breezy conditions remain.
Wind gusts will hold steady from 25 to 30 miles per hour, subsiding as a front starts to move further away from the area. Winds will become a little less breezy into Sunday and especially into Monday, when sunshine continues.
Temperatures, however, will take a drastic turn as a roller coaster continues.
Lows will be in the mid-to-upper 20s on Monday.
After that, temperatures climb back to the consistent 60s, along with rain chances later in the week.
Wednesday, for instance, will experience highs in the low-to-mid 60s, accompanied by breezy conditions.
