A crash investigation shut down traffic in all directions just outside of Chicago in Cicero after a multi-car crash involving a truck and a police squad car, with officers transported to hospitals and major backups expected for the rush hour commute.
The crash occurred about 4:49 a.m. at Roosevelt Road and Cicero Avenue, the Town of Cicero said. NBC 5 Traffic reporter Kye Martin described the incident as a “major crash” with four vehicles involved, including a semi and a Cicero Police Department squad car.
Two officers were injured in the crash and transported to nearby hospitals, Cicero officials said, with other injuries also reported. Conditions weren’t immediately known.
Photos and video from the scene showed multiple cars crashed at the Cicero and Roosevelt intersection, with police tape blocking off parts of the road.
At least one car appeared to be nearly totaled, with debris strewn across the street.
