Two employees and a firefighter suffered burn injuries in a blaze at a suburban industrial business Friday morning.
The fire broke out just after 8:30 a.m. at 6400 S. Archer Rd. in Bedford Park.
Authorities said two employees were discovered in the flames with burn injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.
The fire was “brought under control” withing 30 minutes, but crews continued to work at the scene for much longer.
At least one firefighter was injured battling the blaze and was treated and transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, fire officials said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
Officials with Ingredion, the company that operates out of the building, told NBC Chicago the employees were checking on a dust collector vessel when a piece of equipment caught fire.
Ingredion is a “global ingredients solutions company,” that makes sweeteners, starches and other “ingredients and biomaterials that are used by customers in everyday products from foods and beverages to paper and pharmaceuticals,” according to the company’s website.
Officials said an estimated cost of the damage from the fire remained unclear.
