Six Flags Great America reveals 2026 opening date, slate of 50th anniversary festivities

Thrill-seekers, mark your calendars.

Six Flags Great America announced this week it will open for the season later this month, unveiling a jam-packed lineup of entertainment and experiences to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The Gurnee amusement park will begin its season on Saturday, April 25, roughly two months before kicking off a summer-long celebration marking 50 years in operation. The 50th Anniversary Celebration, which begins June 20, will feature a new nighttime spectacular, nightly drone show, themed experiences, an anniversary brick program and a museum with historic artifacts.

And that’s just part of the festivities.

Visitors will also be able to purchase exclusive merchandise and enjoy food and beverage offerings “inspired by the park’s history,” according to a news release.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration runs through Aug. 9.
