A fire in a Chicago rail yard sent a large plume of dark smoke into the air on Saturday afternoon.
Just after 5 p.m., a large cloud of smoke could be seen rising from a crane machine that was on fire in a rail yard on West 79th Street in the city’s Wrightwood neighborhood, authorities said. No one was injured as of 6 p.m.
The large, dark grey and black plume of smoke could be seen in videos shared to social media.
The tracks for the Metra SouthWest Service line run past the fire, though as of 6 p.m. there was no impact to service, according to Metra’s website.
No additional information was immediately available.
