Illinois is coming off its first Final Four appearance in 21 years, and they’re reloading for another run next season.
According to multiple reports, including from ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, the Illini have landed Providence guard Stefan Vaaks in the transfer portal.
The Estonia-native averaged 15.8 points and 3.2 assists per game last season, had had several huge games in the Big East tournament, scoring 28 in a win against Butler and 23 in a loss to St. John’s.
His addition is huge for Illinois, with the Illini looking to replace their entire backcourt after freshman guard Keaton Wagler declared for the NBA Draft and Kylan Boswell exhausting his eligibility last season.
Still, the Illini will have plenty of weapons returning next season, as David Mirkovic, Tomislav Ivisic and Zvonimir Ivisic could all return to Brad Underwood’s lineup.
Shooting guard Quentin Coleman, a highly touted recruit out of St. Louis, has also committed to the Illini this spring., as has Lucas Morillo, giving the team some options in the backcourt.
The transfer portal is scheduled to close on April 21.
